The Director of Development oversees all areas of fund development, including but not limited to corporate, individual giving, and specialty build programming. This role identifies, solicits, cultivates, and stewards donors and prospects in accordance with performance targets set by the Chief Programs Officer Essential Functions Oversees all development department initiatives and events. Identifies, solicits, cultivates, and stewards donors and prospects through visits and other forms of personal contact. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with other development colleagues to maximize the total gift revenue, plan solicitation strategies, and leverage joint solicitation efforts to move donors up the giving pipeline. Maintain consistent personal contact with current donors, prospects, and committee members, conducting 20 face-to-face visits per month. Personally maintain a donor portfolio consisting of a minimum of 150 constituents as developed in collaboration with CPO. Researches, writes, and tracks the submissions of grant applications and corresponding awards as appropriate. Represent the organization at community events as needed (including Team builds). Be an Ambassador for Habitats mission by supporting our efforts to establish and maintain extraordinary relationships with donors and donor groups. Manage and lead affinity groups such as WomenBuild Competencies Professional, enthusiastic, mission-driven personality. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Ability to exercise good judgment to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, staff, and volunteers. Equal parts of humor, integrity, compassion, and patience are necessary to foster effective working relationships with donors, families, staff, and various other constituencies. Skill in organizing resources, multi-tasking, and establishing priorities. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Presentation skills to both large and small groups. Skill in the use of software applications, including MS Office Suite. Familiarity with donor databases Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This position will require you to attend outdoor events as part of its job functions. Physical Demands An employee must meet the physical demands described here to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, reach with handsarms, listen, and communicate. The employee must be capable of lifting andor moving up to 30 pounds on a necessary basis, occasionally required to stand and walk for long extended periods, climb or balance and stoop or kneel. Position TypeExpected Hours of Work This is a full-time salaried exempt, compensated position. Education, Experience, and Attributes 3 to 5 years of sales or nonprofit development experience. Bachelors degree in business administration or related field. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information. Ability to speak and write English fluently. Build constructive and effective relationships.
